CMP Governance Commission Chair Elect Devn Lewis, CMP Fellow, CEM, DES, HMCC credits her CMP certification for introducing her to a long list of mentors, collaborates and clients. “Being a CMP has expanded my network tremendously,” said Lewis, who is President of Sales & Business Development, ACJ Meetings & Events. “It’s opened up new opportunities and relationships with fellow CMPs around the world.” Devin shared thoughts on the CMP Fellows distinction and her CMP journey with CMP Today.
What does the CMP Fellow distinction mean to you?
This distinction is one of the highest honors in the meetings and events industry. To me, becoming a CMP Fellow represents a commitment to giving back — through mentorship, advocacy and community engagement. It also signifies a career milestone that highlights my dedication to the hospitality industry. I consider it more than just a title or designation — it’s about leaving a meaningful legacy in the meetings and events world.
How did the CMP designation change the trajectory of your career in the global business events industry?
Earning my CMP catapulted my career trajectory by credibly validating my expertise in this competitive industry. It opened doors to opportunities I might not have been considered for and helped me to establish my place as an industry leader. I have also been able to expand my professional network in meaningful ways. Connecting with other CMPs globally introduced me to mentors, collaborators and clients I wouldn’t have met otherwise. It changed how people saw me, how I saw myself and the kinds of opportunities I pursued.
What advice might you have for new/er CMPs?
Never stop learning and continue to strive to be the best at what you do. The CMP is such a huge accomplishment, but it’s also a starting point. Stay curious and seek out ways to stay ahead of trends and best practices in our ever-evolving industry. I would also encourage you to get involved in the community. The connections you build through the CMP network can open doors you never knew existed. Most importantly don’t forget to GIVE BACK and share your knowledge. Helping others grow strengthens our profession and your own leadership skills.
